About Scarlet Summit
A tall upright composition divides into two halves along a diagonal. The upper left is a deep crimson field, flat in places and scraped thin in others, broken by a burst of orange and gold near the centre. Running from top centre to bottom left is a long white and silver stroke, dragged with a blade so the underpaint shows through as fine ridges. To the right, a domed grey-mauve shape sits above bands of olive and sage green, with a wedge of yellow and orange glowing near the lower edge.
There is enough suggestion of a hill against a red sky to read as landscape, though nothing is described in detail. The character is bold and graphic, with quiet earthy greens holding the loud red in check.
The narrow upright shape suits a hallway end wall, a stairwell, or the space between two windows in a living room. It works against white or pale grey walls and pairs with charcoal furniture, oak or walnut timber, and brass or black metal lighting. One red cushion or rug is enough to tie it in.
