About Violet Moonrise
A wide field of violet and magenta fills the upper half like a clouded sky, brushed thin and smoky with pale pink glare near the centre. At the right sits a small crescent moon, softly lit and edged in white. Just left of centre a ring of orange and yellow forms a burning orb, with gold strokes trailing upward from it like sparks. Below, the lower band breaks into dark plum and indigo, cut by scratched white and blue lines, orange flecks and thick gold slashes laid on with a knife.
The overall effect is a horizon seen through haze: soft and atmospheric above, rough and heavily worked below. It reads as landscape and as pure abstraction at the same time.
Suits a lounge room above a low sofa, a bedroom behind the bedhead, or a hallway that needs one long horizontal piece. The violets sit well with grey linen, charcoal walls, brass lamps and warm timber. Pair with plain cushions in plum or mustard and keep other wall art minimal.
