About Scarlet Cascade
The canvas is filled almost edge to edge with scarlet, mottled and patted on in short overlapping strokes so the surface reads like worn plaster. Darker crimson and near-black pool through the middle and along the lower left, while lighter red catches where the paint sits highest. A single vertical band of indigo and cobalt runs from the top edge to the bottom, sitting right of centre and narrowing slightly as it falls. Where it meets the top corner it widens into a dark blue wedge.
Within that band the paint is built up thickly, crusted and broken, with a thin line of red running down through the blue like a drip. It is a quiet, weighted painting: two colours held in tension, with all the interest in the texture rather than any image.
Suits a plain white or pale grey wall where the red can carry the room on its own: a dining room, entry hall, or above a dark leather sofa in a lounge.
