About New York City Cab
Two yellow New York taxis sit at the front of the frame on a white-striped crosswalk, one behind the other, their bonnets catching direct sunlight. Behind them the buildings of Times Square rise steeply from a low camera angle: a blue-green glass tower, a slim brown-pink high-rise and stacked facades covered in advertising. Billboards in yellow, red, magenta and green climb the walls, with banners reading Times Square Alliance near street level. A clear blue sky with thin white cloud fills the upper right.
The photograph is sharp and saturated, with hard midday shadows on the roadway and bright reflections across the taxi paintwork and glass curtain walls. Detail runs from the fine grid lines of the skyscraper windows down to the number plates and door text on the cabs. Its character is busy and upright, a compressed stack of colour and signage held together by the two calm yellow shapes in the foreground.
Suits a living room, home office or hallway where a tall narrow wall needs a focal point. It works with black and grey furniture, metal shelving, exposed brick and warm timber. Pair it with other city or travel images, or let the yellow pick up mustard cushions and brass lamps in a neutral room.
