About Old Venice II
A narrow Venetian canal runs from the foreground into the distance, flanked by tall buildings drawn in charcoal grey and chalky ivory. On the left, a wall of louvred shutters in teal blue sits above a moored gondola with a striped covering. To the right, a gondolier in a white shirt stands at the stern of a second gondola carrying two seated passengers. A low stone footbridge crosses the water midway back, with a small boat resting beneath it and washed-out facades receding behind.
The water is the brightest part of the picture: pale green and blue with hard white streaks of reflected light and dark ripples around the hulls. Lines are sketchy and unfinished at the edges, with drips and smudges left visible, so the scene reads as a quick observational study rather than a polished view. The character is quiet and slightly worn, all muted greys lifted by a few clear blues.
Suits a living room, hallway or bedroom with white or stone-grey walls, timber floors and linen upholstery. The teal shutters pick up navy cushions, blue ceramics or a faded rug. Works well in a coastal or Hamptons-style home, above a sideboard, or paired with a second European canal or laneway print.
