About Silver and Gold Buddha
A square composition holds the head, shoulder and raised right hand of a large Buddha statue, cropped so the face sits to the upper right and the open palm fills the lower left. The face is calm, eyes lowered, with tightly coiled hair curls and long pendulous earlobes rendered in fine detail. Warm gold washes over the forehead, cheekbones, lips, fingers and the scrolled patterning on the robe, while the rest of the figure stays cool silver-grey. The background is a soft, smoky grey gradient, lighter at the top left.
Surface texture reads like brushed and hammered metal, with faint mottling and grain across the statue and background, and darker charcoal shadow pooling under the chin, along the neck and between the fingers. The gold behaves like leaf that has worn thin in places, letting grey show through. The mood is quiet and still, closer to a portrait than a landmark photograph, with the raised palm giving the square a clear sense of calm and pause.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a meditation or yoga corner, a hallway or a home office wall that needs quiet focus. The silver-grey ground sits easily with concrete, pale timber, linen and charcoal upholstery, while the gold picks up brass lamps, rattan and warm neutral bedding. Works well centred alone on a plain wall. Browse more silver and grey art, gold art, multi-coloured art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
