A sunlit street runs across the foot of the image, striped with long gold and brown shadows. On the right, a cream two-storey house with a deep covered veranda and white columns sits behind three tall palms, their fronds dark green and shot with yellow where the light hits them.
On the left, a red brick building with tall chimneys and a small copper-toned dome stands against a pale blue sky streaked with cloud. Clumps of green shrubs with red and coral blooms sit at the base of each building. The brushwork is thick and visible, in the style of an painting on canvas, and a signature sits in the bottom left corner.
