This black and white photograph shows five young trees standing on a grassy slope in heavy fog. Three trees sit close together left of centre, with the tallest and darkest in the middle foreground. A fourth stands further back, and a single tree stands apart on the right, its slim trunk and open branches clear against the pale sky.
The fog turns the background to soft grey, so distant trees fade almost to nothing at the left edge. The lawn is dark and textured in the foreground, covered with fallen leaves, and lightens as it rises toward a low, gently curved horizon. Tones run from near black in the leaves to a bright, even white in the sky.
