About Party of Lights
A single upright flame sits slightly right of centre, painted in white-hot gold fading to orange at its edges, with a curling red-orange line running below it like a wick or fuse trailing to the left edge. Around the flame, dozens of short palette-knife dabs in red, orange and magenta are scattered in a loose spiral, each one lit with a stroke of yellow. The background moves from bright cobalt behind the flame out to near-black navy at the corners.
The effect is of a night sky or a crowd of small lamps circling one bright source. Thick, blocky paint catches the light, so the sparks sit raised above the smoother blue ground.
Works in a lounge room or dining room with dark walls, timber or charcoal furniture, and warm lamp light. The cobalt and orange suit navy velvet, brass fittings and black metal frames.
