About Patterned Circles IV
A cluster of overlapping discs fills the centre of this portrait composition. The largest sits high on the left, filled with a violet and red cube lattice that reads as tumbling three-dimensional blocks. Below and right of it, circles carry olive floral lace, a mustard honeycomb mesh, dark navy and gold triangular facets, a navy disc dotted with white snowflake motifs, and a smaller circle holding a radiating mandala in gold and indigo. Plain white circles sit between them, opening gaps in the stack.
The background is a loose wash of marbled colour: magenta and teal streaks along the left edge, yellow sweeps at lower right, and pale drifts of green and grey behind the discs. The woven canvas weave shows through the lighter areas, softening the printed pattern. The result is busy but balanced, with the geometry of the circles holding the free, liquid colour underneath in check.
Suits a bedroom, hallway or dining room that needs one point of colour against white or pale grey walls. It works above a timber sideboard or a cane chair, and pairs with mustard or plum cushions, brass lamps and plain linen. Good in a beach house or a small bathroom where floor space is tight.
