About Playful Lilies
Nine white calla lilies rise across a portrait canvas, each on a long, slim dark green stem that runs from the bottom edge almost to the top. The trumpet-shaped spathes curl and twist in different directions, some facing the viewer with a small yellow spadix showing, others turning away so only the smooth curved back is seen. Petals are painted in soft white with grey-violet shading in the hollows and a pale green-yellow flush where the bloom meets the stem. The background is a warm orange wash, deeper amber at the edges and lighter gold behind the flowers.
The mood is bright and uncomplicated: a simple flower study given energy by the tangle of crossing stems and the saturated orange field behind them.
Works in a kitchen or dining room where the orange picks up timber and brass, and in a hallway or entry that needs warmth. Pairs with white or cream walls, rattan and light oak furniture, and green indoor plants. Good above a sideboard, console table or in a north-facing living room.
