About Playing Soccer
Two footballers are locked together mid-contest at the centre of a portrait canvas. The player on the left is drawn in white outline with red and yellow flecks through the shorts and legs, one boot reaching down to a pale ball at the lower left. The player on the right is built almost entirely from red and orange strokes, wearing a red cap, with an arm thrown forward across the other's chest. Both figures are linear and skeletal rather than modelled, set on a thick gold ground that has been combed and dragged into a mat of fibrous strokes.
The gold rectangle stops short of the edges, where the paint darkens into burnt brown and near black. It reads as a sporting sketch pressed into metal leaf, energetic and quite rough.
Suits a games room, home bar, teenager's bedroom or a hallway near the front door where boots and balls land. The gold and rust tones sit well against dark timber, exposed brick or charcoal paint, and pair with leather seating, other sporting prints or framed jerseys. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
