About Rare Earth I
A portrait abstract built from loosely squared blocks of colour that overlap like torn panels. A dark chocolate brown field fills the top right corner, while cream and pale ochre wash across the upper left. Through the centre a ribbon of turquoise and deep teal drifts downward, breaking into mottled edges against rust orange and burnt sienna. Lower down, a band of soft olive green and grey runs vertically beside a solid block of warm terracotta. Fine speckling, thin scratched lines and cloudy tonal shifts give the surface a weathered, mineral look.
The character is quiet and geological, closer to eroded rock faces and oxidised metal than to bright modern abstraction. Warm earth tones hold the composition steady while the turquoise vein keeps the eye moving through the centre.
Suits warm neutral interiors: a bedroom above a timber bedhead, a hallway with clay or sand-toned walls, or a beach house living room. Pairs with rattan, leather, linen in oatmeal and aged brass. The turquoise picks up green glassware or ceramic vases, while the rust blocks sit well against terracotta tiles and jute rugs.
