About Saharan Mix I

A square collage built from overlapping layers. White palm fronds fan out from the lower left and cross the centre, their fine leaflets drawn as sharp lines. Behind them sit blocks of scarlet, ochre yellow, olive green and a large deep purple shape that spreads across the upper middle. Gold damask panels with curling floral scrollwork fill the top right and left edges, while white lace medallions float at the upper left and right of centre. Fine horizontal stripes and halftone texture run through many of the shapes.

Near the lower right a red camel silhouette stands against striped olive and black bands, tying the tropical foliage to a desert reference. The overall character is busy, graphic and warm, with strong reds and golds held in check by the cool white foliage.
