About Seaside Day II
The composition stacks flat horizontal bands up a tall, narrow canvas. A washed pale blue sky sits at the top, streaked with soft grey cloud, giving way to a wide blush pink band near the centre. Below it, a thin dark navy ridge reads as a distant headland, with a narrow rust orange line beneath and a warm cream strip of light on the water. Lower down, pale aqua and mint bands widen into the sea.
Toward the base, a blue-violet wedge and a sage green shape suggest a breaking wave, while a grey-beige triangle of sand rises from the bottom left corner and a loose white sweep marks foam. The paint surface looks thin and brushed, with visible streaks, dry edges and small gaps where one band overlaps another. The mood is quiet and open, closer to a remembered view of a beach than a literal one.
Suits a narrow wall beside a doorway, a stairwell or a bedhead where a tall shape works better than a wide one. It sits well in coastal and Hamptons rooms, and in pared-back bedrooms with linen bedding, rattan and light oak. Pair it with its companion panel, or hang it alone above a sideboard.
