About Shade of Blue
Two squares of blue sit one above the other in the upper right. The top block is deep navy, almost black at its frayed edges, with brighter cobalt showing through where the paint thins. Below it, a softer slate blue square has a flatter, chalkier surface. Both float on a field of off-white and warm grey, broken into loose rectangles: a pale cream panel down the left side, a light band along the upper left, and a broad putty-grey area filling the lower half.
A single thin black line drips from the base of the lower square to the bottom edge, ticked with small pale breaks. The paint is laid on thickly in places, with trowel marks, small pits and scraped ridges catching the light. The character is quiet and architectural, closer to a weathered plaster wall than a picture, with the two blues doing all the work.
Suits a hallway, bedroom or home office where the walls are white, grey or limewashed. It sits well above a low sideboard or a bed head, and pairs with pale oak, linen, concrete and brushed steel. The navy block gives a calm anchor point in rooms that already have soft neutral furniture. Browse more the Statton Collection, abstract oil paintings, silver and grey art.
