About Skance
The composition splits into two bands. The upper third holds four pale panels: a grey-blue rectangle marked with soft scale-like shapes, a white square with faint pencil scribbling, a chalky grey oval like an upturned plate, and a cream panel crossed by two looping green threads. Below, warm ochre, rust and tan rectangles are stacked and overlapped. A tall black vessel with a narrow neck and rounded body sits at the centre, flanked by a black oval ring, a band of wavy dark lines and a striped column.
The mood is quiet and considered rather than loud. Flat blocks of colour, faint grid lines and worn, rubbed-back surfaces give it the look of layered paper and aged plaster.
Suits a living room above a low sideboard, a home office behind the desk, or a guest bedroom. The tan and ochre palette works with timber furniture, leather, jute rugs and cream walls, while the grey-blue upper band ties in with charcoal linen, slate cushions and brushed steel or black metal lamps.
