About Splashes
The canvas splits into three bands. The top third is a sandy beige field pitted with pale cream blotches, like bubbles set into plaster, with a rectangle of gold leaf sitting at the upper right edge. Across the middle runs a scraped belt of white, silver-grey and black, with a second, larger gold leaf square placed left of centre. Below that, a flat deep red field fills the lower half, interrupted by dozens of thin white, grey and black paint runs that fall from the grey band to the bottom edge.
The drips vary in weight, some barely a hairline, others thick enough to catch the light, giving the red an unsettled, in-motion feel. It is a bold, high-contrast piece that reads as colour and gravity rather than any object.
Suits a living room with white or pale grey walls, where the red carries across the room. Works above a charcoal or leather sofa, in an entry hall, or on a stair wall. Pairs with black metal frames, brass lamps, timber floors and plain linen furnishings. Keep surrounding decor quiet so the gold leaf reads clearly.
