About St Mary's Island Lighthouse
A white lighthouse stands right of centre on a low rocky island, its lantern room and small keeper's cottages catching the last warm light. Above, a deep blue sky is streaked with long bands of pink and lilac cirrus that thin towards a band of orange and gold on the horizon at far left. The foreground is a wide shelf of fissured brown and grey rock, with shallow tide pools holding mirrored patches of pink sky. A single distant figure walks near the waterline at left.
The photograph is quiet and expansive, built on the contrast between the still, reflective pools and the tall vertical of the tower. Colour does the work: warm sunset tones held inside cool blue shadow.
Suits a coastal or beach house living room, a bedroom above the bedhead, or a home office wall. It works with white and grey walls, timber furniture, linen bedding and rattan, and sits well beside other blue or sunset-toned seascapes.
