About Stay
A seated female nude fills most of the canvas, turned slightly away so the head reads as a smooth, featureless silhouette tipped forward. One knee is drawn up and the far arm braces against the ground, the body resting on a pale mound at the base. Curling filigree lines are traced across the breast, ribs, hip and thigh, drawn in thin dark strokes like henna or carved ornament. The background is a flat wash of ochre and olive, scraped and stippled so the weave of paint shows through.
Colour stays within a narrow band of sand, gold and warm brown, with shadow built in deeper umber down the left side of the torso and along the bent leg. The surface is dry-brushed and slightly gritty, closer to weathered plaster or sandstone than skin. A small red signature sits in the lower right corner. The overall character is quiet and sculptural: a figure held still, more carved relief than portrait.
Suits a bedroom above a low bed head, a dressing area, or a hallway where the warm ochre picks up timber floors and brass fittings. It works with linen, rattan and clay-toned ceramics, and sits well against off-white, putty or deep olive walls. Pair it with plain frames and soft lamp light rather than busy gallery groupings.
