About Stitch
A vertical canvas worked in bronze and copper, with a broad band of warm gold running down the centre like light falling through a gap. The surface is heavily textured, built up with a plaster-like ground that catches the light in small ridges, cracks and flecks across the brown outer areas. Four thin silver lines rise in two pairs, one to the left of the gold band and one to the right, drawn freehand so they wobble slightly rather than running straight.
Where each pair of lines meets, a small rectangle of hatched silver strokes crosses them, resembling a stitch or binding holding the lines together. Rust-red seeps through near the right edge and along the lower gold band, warming the darker corners. The painting is quiet and metallic in feel, closer to a weathered copper panel than a picture, with the two silver stitches giving it a single clear focal idea.
Suits a hallway, dining room or bedroom with warm timber, leather or rattan furniture, and works well against cream, taupe or charcoal walls. The copper and gold sit comfortably with brass lamps, terracotta pots and jute rugs. Hang it as a single vertical piece in a narrow wall space beside a doorway or staircase.
