About Story of Love
The canvas splits roughly in half. The upper band is sandy gold and cream, scratched and scraped so faint red scribbles and ghosted lettering show through the surface. A red circle, drawn in loose spiralling line, sits to the right like a low sun. Below, a deep crimson field runs dark at the edges and brighter red through the centre, crossed by a heavy black sweeping stroke. White paint is flung and trailed across both halves in long looping arcs that read like handwriting.
A small gold-leaf square sits just left of centre, the one quiet, hard-edged shape among all the movement. Texture is thick in places, with dripped white spatter, fine black scratched lines and visible trowel marks in the ground. The painting has an energetic, written-over feel, as though marks were layered and partly erased over time.
Suits a lounge room with warm neutral or grey walls, above a leather or charcoal sofa. The gold band works with oak, rattan and brass lamps, while the crimson lifts a dark timber sideboard or a dining room with red-toned rugs.
