About Sunny Trio
Three tall vases stand side by side across the lower two thirds of an upright canvas, painted in washed lilac and violet over a mustard ochre ground. Two are straight-sided bottles with sloping shoulders; the third, at right, has a rounded bulb base and a narrow neck. Above each, a single long thread-thin stem carries one open white flower with loose overlapping petals brushed in pale grey-lilac. A band of darker olive-brown across the base reads as a tabletop.
The paint is thin and rubbed back, so the ochre ground shows through the vase bodies as vertical streaks and chalky patches. It is a quiet, graphic still life that relies on the contrast between hot yellow and cool lilac rather than detail.
Works in a dining room above a sideboard, in a hallway, or in a bedroom where the mustard ground can warm pale walls. Pairs with timber furniture, rattan, brass lamps and linen in cream or olive. The upright format suits a narrow wall beside a doorway or between two windows. Browse more floral art, the Statton Collection, purple and pink art.
