About The Chinese Lady I
A woman occupies the right half of the image, turned away so only her bare back, shoulder and the side of her jaw are visible. Her black hair is gathered into a smooth chignon held with a slim pin, and her right hand rests against the back of her neck. A deep burgundy wrap slips from her shoulder and covers the lower corner. Behind her the wall is layered in burnt orange, rust and gold, with a scratched, plaster-like surface and faint script marks scored into the pigment.
On the left hangs a dark red panel filled with pale Chinese characters and a small oval medallion at its centre. To the right, a large grey-green disc carrying a single carved symbol sits against a maroon ground, and a small red seal stamp appears at the lower edge. The mood is quiet and inward, the warm wall texture balancing the smooth, softly lit skin.
Suits a bedroom above a bed head, a hallway with warm timber, or a lounge room with terracotta, tan leather and brass.
