About The Separation
The canvas is split vertically. Down the left runs a wide near-black band with rough, gritty paint, carrying four evenly spaced gold leaf squares from top to bottom. The larger right section is divided horizontally: a pale cream-yellow field at the top, two gold bars separated by a black stripe across the middle, and a deep rust-orange field below. Both fields are combed with looping, fan-shaped trowel marks that catch the light across the surface.
Raised relief work sits on each field: a fanned seed-head or grass spray in the cream upper panel, and a thin, twisting stem climbing the rust panel, both built up in modelling paste and glazed. The mood is quiet and architectural, with warmth coming from the gold and burnt orange rather than from any image.
Suits a lounge room, entry hall or dining wall with warm neutral or charcoal paint. It works beside timber furniture, leather seating, rattan and linen, and picks up brass or bronze lamps, handles and mirror frames. In an office or reception it holds a narrow wall between doorways without crowding it. Browse more contemporary art, earthy tones, all hand-painted oil paintings.
