About Vermillion Landscape II
A square abstract landscape divided roughly in half. The upper section is a wide sky in pale grey-blue and soft white, worked in loose sweeping arcs that curve outward from the centre. Below it a low range of hills runs across the width in deep teal and slate green, dipping in the middle and rising again at both edges. In front of the ranges, flat bands of sand, wheat gold and soft green suggest cultivated country, marked by short vertical strokes.
The foreground opens into broad diagonal sweeps of apricot, cream, buttery yellow and muted olive, with a pale mound rising just left of centre. Small flecks of terracotta break up the green lower right. The surface shows visible directional strokes and areas where thin colour lets the layer beneath show through, giving the fields a dry, sunlit feel. Its character is calm and unhurried, a quiet stretch of country reduced to colour and shape rather than detail.
Suits a living room above a low sofa, a main bedroom over the bedhead, or a dining wall where its sage and apricot tones sit well with oak, rattan and linen. Works in neutral or warm white rooms, and pairs naturally with a second square landscape for a balanced two-piece arrangement.
