About Field of Topaz
A square abstract built from loose watercolour washes reading as a shoreline. The upper third is pale grey-white sky with faint blue clouding and thin ink lines drifting across it. Below, a band of teal and deep slate runs the width of the image like distant water. Cutting through the centre is a broken ridge of gold ochre, dry-edged and flecked, sitting above olive green shapes and bleached white gaps. The lower half dissolves into grey, blue and green pooling, with hard-edged blocks suggesting rock or reflection.
The character is quiet and weathered rather than bright: soft pigment bleeds, visible water marks and granulated edges are balanced by the one warm gold seam that holds the eye at the middle of the square.
Suits coastal and beach house interiors, a bedroom above a bed head, or a living room wall with linen sofas and pale timber. The teal and gold sit well with brass lamps, jute rugs, white walls and grey stone benchtops. Works alone as a square above a sideboard, or paired with a second abstract in similar tones.
