About Wave in Sunset
A single dark indigo form falls from the upper left of the square canvas and spreads into a ragged fan near the centre, reading as a wave curling over and collapsing. Above it, a pale ridge of lilac and cream runs across the top edge with small flecks of thick paint catching along its lip. The right two thirds of the canvas is washed in warm peach and apricot, blended so smoothly that the brush marks almost disappear. Along the base, broad horizontal sweeps of lavender, mauve and white run out toward the lower corners.
The contrast between the soft blended warmth and the one dense stroke of indigo gives the picture its tension. It stays quiet overall, with the dark centre holding the eye.
Suits a bedroom above a bed head, a lounge room with grey or oatmeal upholstery, or a hallway that needs a calm focal point. The peach and violet range sits well with pale timber, brushed brass and linen. Pair it with plain cushions rather than patterned ones so the single dark stroke stays dominant.
