About Winning Swing
A single golfer stands in profile at the top of the follow-through, weight rolled onto the back foot, hands high and the club shaft cutting a long diagonal to the upper left where the black head sits against dark red. The figure is painted in red-brown and maroon with almost no facial detail, just a capped head and shoulders turned toward the sky. Behind him the canvas divides into a crimson and near-black upper band and a broad cream and olive lower field suggesting fairway and distant trees.
Paint is laid on thickly and dragged, with scraped ochre streaks, flecks of white and scratched lines through the green. The mood is heat and follow-through rather than portraiture: a sports moment reduced to posture, colour and movement.
Suits a games room, home bar, office or golf club hallway, and works well above a leather chair or sideboard. The crimson and ochre sit comfortably with dark timber, brick and brass, and the portrait shape fits a narrow wall between a doorway and a bookcase or beside a trophy shelf.
