About Pup in a Woolly Beanie
A young bulldog sits square to the viewer against a plain cream background, head tilted slightly to the left. It wears an oversized knitted beanie banded in turquoise, mint, violet and lilac, topped with a large shaggy pompom of loose strands in red, yellow, blue, green and orange. The brim sits low over the eyes, leaving only the muzzle, black nose and a fold of wrinkled cheek visible. A striped scarf in magenta, cream, lime and blue loops around the neck and falls between the front legs.
The dog's coat is ginger and tan, painted in wet, blended strokes with pale patches on the chest and paws, so the body reads as soft and slightly out of focus against the crisp knitted detail. Ridged, ribbed brushwork gives the wool a raised, tactile surface. The character is gentle comedy: a patient, slightly resigned pup dressed for a cold morning.
