About Gold Leaf Horizon
A low horizon line sits about two thirds down the canvas, splitting the composition into a wide, open sky and a narrow band of land. The sky is built from thin washes of pale blue, soft grey and white, scrubbed and blended so the cloud edges stay loose. Scattered across it are small patches of metallic gold, some clustered into a torn shape near the centre, others floating as single flecks to the right. The land band runs edge to edge in warm ochre and dark brown, broken by scraped white and gold highlights.
The character is quiet and atmospheric, more weather than place: a hazy, sunlit horizon suggested rather than drawn, with the gold doing the work of light.
The long, low format suits a wall above a sofa, a sideboard or a bedhead, and works in a hallway where you walk past it. The pale blue and grey sit easily with white or stone walls, linen upholstery and timber furniture, while the gold flecks pick up brass lamps, mirror frames and warm oak.
