About African Giraffes Exotiques
Two giraffes stand overlapped at the centre of a square composition. The nearer animal is charcoal grey, facing right with its head raised high into the top of the frame, its long neck and slender legs rendered as a flat silhouette. Behind it a second giraffe appears in antique gold, head turned the other way, partly dissolving into the background. The surrounding surface is a dense damask of scrolls, fans and leaf forms in gold, grey and off-white, printed so the pattern reads through the animals' bodies as well as around them.
The background carries a scuffed, plaster-like finish with patches of bare white, faint crackle and stencil edges, especially along the base where the pattern breaks into olive-toned speckles. The overall character is decorative and slightly aged, more wallpaper fragment than wildlife study, with the giraffes working as graphic shapes rather than realistic portraits.
Suits a neutral lounge room, hallway or bedroom where walls are white, stone or warm grey. The antique gold reads well beside brass lamps, rattan and linen, while the charcoal silhouettes hold up against dark timber furniture. Works as a single square over a sideboard, or paired with another patterned neutral print in a Hamptons or beach house setting.
