About Brumbies of the Alpine National Park
Two wild horses stand facing the camera in open eucalypt bushland. On the left, a near-black mare with a narrow white blaze down her face and a dark mane falling across her neck; on the right, a bay stallion with a red-brown coat, dark legs, a heavy shaggy mane and a small white star on his forehead. Behind them, slender saplings and grey-green gum foliage fill the frame, with pale fallen branches and bleached timber scattered across the ground between tussocks of dry grass.
The photograph is quiet and direct: both horses have paused mid-graze and turned to look, giving the image a still, watchful character rather than any sense of motion.
