About Botanical Sketches III
A single upright branch rises from the lower edge of a warm off-white ground, carrying seven solid black leaves that fan out in pairs along a slightly curving stem. Each leaf is filled with dense black ink and cut through with pale diagonal lines that read as a herringbone vein pattern, the central rib left as a thin light channel. The edges are slightly ragged, like a stamped block print, with small grey ink flecks scattered around the stem and lower right corner. A handwritten signature sits near the base.
The character is quiet and graphic: high contrast, no colour, and a lot of empty paper-toned space around the branch. The leaf shapes are simplified to flat silhouettes, so the artwork reads clearly from across a room while the fine striped veining rewards a closer look.
Suits bathrooms, hallways, home offices and kitchens where a simple black and white accent is needed. Works above a white basin, beside a timber desk or in a stairwell. Pairs naturally with other botanical line studies as a set of two or three, and sits well with linen, rattan, black metal frames and pale walls.
