About Twelve Apostles at Sunset
Two limestone sea stacks stand offshore in the right half of the frame, their flat tops and eroded flanks lit warm gold by low sun while their shaded sides fall to deep brown. Behind them the cliff line runs back to the left, capped with green scrub and dropping to a pale sand beach. Lines of white surf sweep in diagonal bands across the foreground, breaking over a deep blue-teal sea. The sky holds scattered cumulus, bright white on top and grey underneath, over a strong blue band near the horizon.
The character is clear and high-contrast: warm gold rock set against cool blue water and sky, with the repeating curves of the breaking waves giving the picture its movement.
Suits a beach house living room, a coastal-style bedroom or a hallway with white or pale grey walls. The gold cliffs pick up rattan, jute rugs, timber furniture and linen in sand tones, while the blues work with navy cushions and whitewashed timber. Large sizes carry well above a sofa or a bed head.
