A close, square view down onto the surface of a pond covered in fallen autumn leaves. Orange, rust and yellow leaves crowd the upper right and lower right, while a few pale green leaves drift through the middle. The view is cropped tight, so there is no bank, horizon or shoreline.
Concentric ripples spread across the water and break up the reflections into bands of lilac, pale blue and white on the left. Dark brown and black shadows sit between the leaves and give depth. The brushwork is loose and the image reads as a realistic painting, with sharp leaf edges set against streaky, distorted reflections.
