About Autumn Shadows I
A square watercolour landscape divided into three broad bands. Along the top, a pale aqua sky is broken by a loose line of trees rendered in ochre, mustard and olive, their canopies spreading into soft blotches with fine speckled edges where pigment has scattered. Beneath them sits a dark band of scrub and hedgerow in deep brown, drawn with quick vertical flicks. The lower half opens into a wide field of blush pink, cream and soft yellow, with pale bloom-shaped edges where the wash has dried unevenly.
The mood is quiet and slightly hazy, as if seen through late afternoon light. Nothing is sharply defined; the appeal is in the granular watercolour texture and the contrast between the cool aqua sky and the warm earth tones below.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a living room with linen or timber furniture, or a home office wall that needs calm rather than colour. The aqua top band works with pale blue-grey walls, while the ochre and blush tones sit well with rattan, oak and cream upholstery. Pairs naturally with a second watercolour landscape.
