About Beauty of Colors
The canvas is built from vertical strokes that run top to bottom like weathered, peeling paint. The left third is violet and lavender shot through with cobalt blue and small flecks of red. Through the centre the colour shifts to burnt orange, rust and gold, brightest in the lower middle where amber pools against a darker brown. Cream and off-white break through near the top edge, and a tapering black wedge runs down the right side. Paint sits thickly in ridges, scraped and dragged so lower layers show through.
The character is warm and weathered rather than graphic, closer to a rusted, sun-bleached wall than to any landscape. The violet-to-amber split gives it a clear left-to-right temperature change that holds the eye.
Suits a living room above a low sideboard, an entry hall, or a bedroom wall behind the bedhead where the vertical format works in a narrow space. Sits well with oak, walnut and rattan, linen upholstery in oatmeal or grey, and brass lighting. The violet edge picks up plum or blush cushions.
