About Black Diva Two
A single elongated female figure stands centre canvas, painted in chalky white with black outlining at the shoulders, hip and raised arm. Her head is turned in profile beneath a white wrap, with a black collar and small gold beadwork at the throat. Two narrow vertical panels, one either side, carry rows of gold hieroglyph-like marks raised in thick paint. The background is deep crimson, rubbed and scumbled so darker reds show through around the edges.
At the base, a low mound of burnt orange and ochre is laid on with a palette knife, ridged and gritty against the smoother red field. The overall effect is graphic and warm, a simple silhouette held in place by strong colour and gold detail.
Works in an entry hall, a dining room with dark timber, or a bedroom where warm colour is wanted. Pairs with black metal frames, rattan, brass lamps and cream or charcoal walls.
