Horizontal bands run edge to edge across a square composition, stacked like the slats of a venetian blind. The bands are unevenly weighted, some thick and solid, others thinning to a scratched line, so the rhythm shifts as your eye travels down the square.

Fine vertical drips fall from the underside of several dark bands, and dry, streaked texture shows through the grey and white passages where the colour has been dragged sideways. Small white flecks and spatters sit on the black areas. The character is quiet but graphic: an ordered, striped structure loosened by drips and scraped edges, with the purple bands providing the only real colour against a black, grey and white framework.
