About Blue Velvet I
A square composition of loose, rounded washes floats across an off-white ground. Two deep cobalt shapes anchor the centre and lower left, their edges bleeding into paler indigo and sky blue. Around them sit ochre and mustard strokes, soft olive-green leaf forms and cool grey smudges that fade into the background. Small blue dots drift at the left edge. The washes overlap in places, letting darker pools of pigment gather at the outlines, with dry, granular texture showing through the lighter passages.
The effect reads as a bunch of flowers reduced to colour and movement rather than detail. It stays calm because so much white is left open around the shapes.
Suits living rooms, bedrooms and hallways with white or pale grey walls, and works well above a sideboard or bedhead. The cobalt and ochre pair easily with natural timber, linen upholstery, rattan and brass. Hang the 60 x 60cm or 75 x 75cm size in a nook, or 110 x 110cm and larger on a wide feature wall.
