A woman in a white dress and wide-brimmed hat bends low over two small children at the water's edge. One child wears a pale sun hat and a blue and white top, the other a navy cap and white shirt. Between them sits a pale yellow-green bucket in the wet sand.
Behind them the sea runs in broad bands of turquoise and deep blue, broken by loose white strokes of foam. Two gulls fly low over the shallows on the left and tiny sails sit on the horizon. Lilac and pink reflections lie across the damp sand in the foreground. The brushwork is bold and loose, in a bright painterly style.
