About Calm River I
A narrow river curves in a long S-shape from the bottom right of the frame towards a bright horizon, its surface holding pale silver and soft blue reflections of the sky. Flat banks of dry reeds and grass in olive and brown press in on both sides, broken by small islands and side channels. Behind them stands a dark line of trees, and beyond that layered mountain ridges fade from charcoal into warm amber haze near the light source on the right.
Everything is rendered with a deliberate soft focus, so edges of trees, ridges and water melt into one another with no sharp detail anywhere. The mood is still and quiet, closer to a half-remembered dawn than a literal record of a place.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a living room above a low sideboard, or a home office where a calm focal point helps. The olive, amber and charcoal tones sit well with linen, timber, rattan and darker leather, and it works as one half of a matched pair on a wide wall.
