A crowded dinner table at the end of a formal evening. A long white tablecloth with a deep lace edge runs through the middle, set with a silver tea urn, a cup and saucer, wine glasses and a glass dish of oranges. Two lamps wrapped in roses and greenery glow above the table, and a small gilded figurine stands behind them.
Guests in evening dress fill the scene. On the left a woman in a cream gown looks up with a smile, while two women in pale dresses talk with a bearded man behind her. A woman in a red wrap sits with her back to us on the right, beside two older men in black tie. Palms and tall windows sit in dark green shadow, with warm lamplight on the cloth and faces. The brushwork is soft and painterly.
