This portrait photograph looks up inside a narrow slot canyon, where smooth sandstone walls sweep in long, overlapping curves. A rounded ridge arcs across the upper right, while a wide, rippled slope fills the left. The two forms meet in an S-shaped edge that leads the eye from the lower right up toward the bright opening.
Fine parallel lines of sedimentary banding run across every surface, giving the rock a soft, fabric-like texture. Light enters from the top left and warms the stone to glowing orange and peach, while the right side falls into deep russet, brown and dusky mauve. A few small dark pits and crevices break the smoothness at the lower left.
