About City Shadows
Tall vertical strokes crowd both sides of the composition like buildings seen through rain, leaving an open pale centre. On the left, burnt orange, ochre and dark chocolate bands sit over a soft grey ground; on the right, the same rust tones are broken by small blocks of turquoise and mustard. Down the middle, thin teal, cream and grey marks drift into a light horizon band of pale blue and off-white, with a faint darker line suggesting a bridge or distant row of rooftops.
The surface reads as layered dry-dragged paint, with visible streaks, scraped edges and patches where lower colours show through. It has the feel of a city street at dusk after rain, warm and slightly blurred rather than sharply drawn.
Works above a sideboard in a dining room, behind a sofa in a neutral lounge, or on a bedroom feature wall. The rust and ochre tones suit tan leather, walnut or oak furniture and linen upholstery, while the teal flecks pick up navy or aqua cushions. Strong against white, grey or clay-painted walls.
