A large maple tree fills the upper right of this square image, its branches reaching across the top with dense clusters of crimson, scarlet and orange leaves. The thick brown trunk sits at the right edge, and a few single leaves drift down through the pale air on the left side.
Behind the tree, soft grey-green trunks fade into mist, with a pale sky glowing at the centre. The meadow below is layered in ochre and olive with visible brushy strokes, and a bed of fallen red leaves darkens the foreground. The painterly texture and muted haze contrast with the saturated red canopy.
