About Blue and Gold Macaw
A single macaw fills most of the canvas, turned three-quarters so the heavy pale beak points down and to the left while one ringed eye looks straight out. The crown is painted in flat green strokes, the bare face in white with fine dark lines, and the throat drops into deep navy. Below that the chest runs from orange into yellow and red, brushed in short vertical marks. The folded wing on the right is cobalt and violet, scattered with raised dabs of white, magenta, green and yellow. The background is a plain, lightly brushed pale grey-blue.
The bird reads as calm and slightly wary rather than decorative, and the raised specks of paint on the wing give it a lift close up.
Works in a living room or hallway where you want one strong point of colour against white or pale grey walls. The orange chest picks up rust and tan cushions, and the cobalt wing sits well with navy upholstery, cane chairs and indoor plants. Also suits a child's room or a sunroom with timber furniture.
