About Eden
A square landscape framed within the canvas itself: two painted vertical bands of deep russet brown, carved with dark scrollwork, run down the left and right edges like an old timber surround. Between them sits the view. Two slim trees stand slightly right of centre, one carrying green summer foliage, the other turned orange and red. Behind them a band of pale water and low violet-blue hills fades into a soft grey-blue sky brushed with loose diagonal strokes.
In the foreground a gold-yellow meadow drops into a thicket of red poppies painted with short, loaded dabs of scarlet and crimson over dark green leaf strokes. The paint is thicker here, so the flower heads sit slightly proud of the canvas. It is a quiet, warm painting that reads like a view through a window, with the deep border pulling your eye into the light in the middle.
Suits a dining room, hallway or bedroom with warm timber, brick or cream walls.
