About Equal Creation
A tall portrait canvas divided into soft fields of cream, sand and pale ochre. Near the top sits a dark maroon-brown rectangle with frayed, dry-brushed edges, cut by a narrow pale line that drops from the top of the canvas and stops partway down inside the block. To its right a warmer tan panel steps down and squares off about halfway. Along the lower left, three slim dark brown vertical bars run to the bottom edge, with a fourth bar set apart to the right.
The paint is laid in thin, scrubbed layers so the weave and small speckles of grit show through the cream ground, giving a plastered, wall-like surface. The bars are drier still, their edges nicked and broken. Its character is quiet and balanced: a few firm shapes held in a wide, warm, empty field.
Suits neutral living rooms, hallways and bedrooms with limestone, oatmeal or white walls. It works above a timber sideboard, a linen bedhead or a pair of leather chairs, and pairs well with rattan, travertine, jute rugs and matte ceramics.
